Aims and Objectives
To assist and encourage lone fathers who have or wish to have custody or care and control of their children to support and sustain their children in a viable and happy family unit, and assist lone fathers without custody to maintain adequate contact with their children.
To promote the best possible practices in parenting, access, and custody, with the happiness and emotional well-being of the children as the primary consideration, and recognition that each child needs the love and guidance of both father and mother;
To promote an explicit code of conduct and behaviour for lone fathers, to support professionally approved standards of parental conduct in a divided family situation, and develop acceptable ways and methods by which lone fathers can handle problems affecting their children;
To encourage parents to recognise the need to understand different points of view, and not to degrade their former spouses in any way;
To make representations to government, non-government agencies, and the community generally about the special needs of lone fathers and their children, and seek help from those sources in supplying these needs;
To work towards the improvement of legislation affecting the welfare of lone fathers and their children;
To promote the development of a better understanding and a more equitable approach in the Family Court on custody, access, and property issues;
To ensure that lone fathers are accorded rights and acceptance in dealing with their children that are no less favourable than those enjoyed by lone mothers;
To ensure equal protection and equal opportunity for the children of lone fathers;
To assist lone fathers to prevent the institutionalisation of their children;
To relieve misfortune, suffering, and helplessness on the part of men and their children who have been left homeless as a result of a relationship breakdown - this relief to be provided through crisis accommodation and support, referral to other services, and skills workshops (mens' accommodation and crisis service); and
To cooperate and liaise with other organisations in Australia with similar objects on matters of mutual interest.
